Oceanographic data collection and processing

Our team is able to collect and process oceanographic data from marine environmental measurement networks around the world (buoys, profilers, tide gauges, HF radars, saildrones...). Collect, apply quality controls, and format the collected data on a daily basis to provide homogeneous data of the highest possible quality.

For more than 11 years as part of the TAC (Thematic Assembly Center) for in situ data from the Copernicus Marine Service in collaboration with Puertos del Estado , being responsible for data collection in the Northwest Atlantic area, the Iberia-Vizcaya-Ireland area, the Iberia-Vizcaya-Ireland area, the Iberia-Vizcaya-Ireland area, the Iberia-Vizcaya-Ireland area.

Reliable in situ oceanographic data. The first step to everything else.

Consistent data of the highest quality

The main objective is to obtain data from multiple vendors and platform types, perform a thorough quality control and distribute it in a common format (NetCDF - CF Conventions) and in near real time (within 3-15 hours depending on the platform type) to the central dissemination unit.

These data will be used to report the current state of the sea, in the validation of numerical oceanographic prediction models and in processes of assimilation of these models, to improve the results obtained.

Contextual numbers

At the same time, historical data are reprocessed to obtain long time series up to 25 and even 50 years in length. This information is very useful for model validation, assimilation in ocean reanalyses and climate studies.

CMEMS In Situ TAC manages more than 6500 active stations, and almost 50,000 historical stations, from more than 150 providers worldwide.
